A few days ago someone asked me how we had managed to continue to grow our company even though the world markets seem to be under such intense pressure and economic decline.  After a bit of thought, it struck me that a lot of our success simply comes from having the right staff with the right skills and attitude.

There are two types of person in every company; those who see the job as a job – they come to work, do a great job during the day and at 5pm they go home satisfied that they have done their bit and contributed.  For some employees, they see the job as more than just a job; it’s a career.  These employees are the backbone of any successful company – they take the company goals to heart and go above and beyond to achieve success and drive the company forward.

The right combination of job and career is really important.  In the creative industries, we see a lot of new talent with recent graduates from creative programs, just starting out in their careers.  This enthusiasm and drive is an essential component in our creative team, and we have always looked for graduates with a good attitude and willingness to develop their own skills in a corporate environment.  When you combine this form of enthusiasm with a company ethos of “setting up for success” and the right mix of ‘job’ and ‘career’ staff, you get a wonderful mix of energy that brings a positive attitude, a better working environment and ultimately financial success for the company.

Impact Visual Communications has seen many phases of development and the company has continued to grow since it started 19 years ago.  Our success has been partially through great product and customer service and partially through our investment in our people.  Great people make a great business.  At this time of year, when we are thinking about Christmas and family, spare a thought for your work family and the contributions they are making to your success.  With a positive attitude, the right staff and the right products any company can be successful and continue to grow despite market pressure. If there was one piece of advice I’d share it would be to empower your staff and encourage their career development – every minute spent developing staff is an investment.
